About IATP

Overview of IATP Tasks

IATP brings together alumni from 65 Russian cities with the goal of building vibrant online communities dedicated to information exchange among colleagues, academicians, business professionals and other citizens. Alumni targeted by IATP represent 22 professional and academic programs funded by the U.S. Government and maintain ongoing interaction via the Internet with counterparts in all of the 50 states. This unique model of professional collaboration has produced a diverse, technology-literate alumni population spanning the vast ethnic, racial, socio-economic, and geographic areas of Russia. IATP alumni, along with the other targeted audiences, continue to shape the developing democratic systems across Russian society through interaction enhanced by the Internet and IATP.

IATP Host Institution Partners

Project Harmony coordinates the work of 54 libraries, 20 universities and 18 other educational establishments within the current IATP network. Each institution offers a complete platform of educational opportunities for patrons, and provides access to a minimum of 10 workstations and other equipment vital to effective training. Each partner provides facilities, personnel, and Internet connectivity as cost sharing, an indication of their dedication to the goals of IATP.

The Alumni Program

The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) through Project Harmony offers alumni of U.S. Government exchange programs free and open access to the Internet, the opportunity to participate in Internet seminars and trainings, and informational support through IATP listservs, web chats and online forums.

Each year Project Harmony in cooperation with the Moscow U.S. Embassy identify target cities across Russia where locally-based alumni coordinators establish comprehensive training programs for ECA alumni. Each alumni coordinator facilitates two intensive forty-hour Internet courses and conducts five monthly thematic seminars. Courses cover Internet-related topics such as HTML, web design, scripting, page layout, etc., while seminars address more specific topics like distance learning, the Internet for business, or PowerPoint and online presentation skills.

Distance Learning Component

Project Harmony continues the development of professional distance learning courses for ECA alumni working with leading specialists in Russian education and DL, including Stanford University and the Russian Academy of Education. The current portfolio consists of 32 courses on topics most popular among IATP participants: application of new information technologies in professional activities, modern communications, and communication psychology. A complete listing of courses can be found on the IATP distance learning website.
