The American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham) promotes favorable investment conditions in the Russian Federation for western business. It endorses solutions to trade and investment issues that protect and benefit members’ interests, supports greater cooperation between western companies and their Russian partners, and provides timely and accurate information on the Russian market.
Founded in 1994, AmCham has chapters in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Its members include over 650 companies and 1000 professionals. Chamber members may access a network of business contacts, member-to-member discounts, updates on business trends, and extensive advocacy and policy programs.

Carana Corporation/USAID Transformation Toolkit for Accounting Systems
The “TRANSFORMATION TOOL-KIT” methodology was successfully used to transform the financial statements of 25 Russian enterprises into statements which comply with International Accounting Standards (IAS). This methodology provides a cost effective alternative that will allow one to restate the financial statements prepared in accordance with Russian Statutory Accounting Methodology (RSA) into those that are in substantial compliance with International Accounting Standards (IAS).

IRIS helps government, business and civil society create and implement reforms that increase market-oriented economic growth and strengthen democratic procedures. It offers advice, technical assistance, research, and direct financial support to groups seeking to improve laws, rules, and procedures related to creating competitive markets in developing and transitional economies. The IRIS SME Network Assessment and Strengthening Project
The IRIS (Institutional Reform and the Informal Sector) SME (small- and medium-sized enterprize) Network Assessment and Strengthening Project is a two-year USAID funded project to assist Business Support Institutions (BSIs) in Russia. The project evaluates existing BSIs and facilitates creation of a business support network in Russia by providing short-term technical assistance, training, and small grants. Replication of Lessons Learned (ROLL) Project
ROLL is an environmental protection project (performed by the Institute for Sustainable Communities – Russia) which supports the sharing of proven environmental approaches and opportunities for expanding their impact beyond their original “pilot” sites. The ROLL project replicates and disseminates the positive effects of the Russian/American environmental cooperation program begun in 1992 by USAID. Russia Economics Research Program
The Economics Education and Research Consortium (EERC) was created in 1995 to strengthen economics education and research capabilities, initially in Russia and Ukraine. The Consortium’s program in Russia focuses on individual grants, training and technical assistance to Russian economists engaged in original policy-oriented research, with a complementary publication and dissemination program for EERC-sponsored research. The site has links to research on transitional economies and Eastern Europe in general. The Consortium’s programs are administered by the Eurasia Foundation.

The Russian Environmental Partnership (REP) Project
The REP Project fosters sustainable natural resource management in Russia through efforts in non-timber forest products, business development, wood processing technology, and commercial practices that adhere to the principles of protecting the Great Boreal Forest’s inherent ability to sequester and process carbon.
The REP Project is managed by Pacific Rim Taiga, Inc. and funded by USAID. Its aim is to reduce global climate threats while promoting economic growth by implementing projects that increase energy efficiency, promote sustainable land use management, and seek less carbon-intensive methods of achieving the goals of economic stability.

The Russia Donors’ Forum is an informal coalition of representatives of private and public grant makers working in Russia. The Forum promotes the development of a democratic civil society and private enterprise in Russia by enhancing the effectiveness of funder activities through networking and cooperation, information sharing, and collaborative initiatives among active grant makers.

The NAT charter specifies that full membership is open to anyone holding a state license for broadcasting and who complies with legal and ethical norms of professional activity. Democratic Civil-Military Relations Program (DCMRP)
DCMRP promotes the democratization of defense policy and the establishment of strategic defense communities in 12 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. This is achieved by educating senior civilian and military staff of government ministries in those countries, such as the ministries of defense and foreign affairs, in the history and practice of civil-military relations in Canada. By involving Canadian universities, the public and private sectors, and nongovernmental organizations, the program supports the Canadian democratic strategic community, whereby both civilian and military expertise are promoted and integrated within the policy-making process. The program is administered on behalf of Canada’s Department of National Defense by the Association of Universaries and Colleges of Canada.
Capacity Building in Public Policy in Russia
The project supports the process of democratic development in Russia by strengthening the institutional capacity of social science research and consulting organizations. It provides training to Russian social scientists who work in a variety of public organizations throughout Russia and who have practical experience in the field of social research. Participants are given the opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge in assessing public needs and policies through survey research. Training participants are required to use these skills by carrying out research projects in their field of interest. The East-West Project is a unit of the Institute of Central/East European and Russian-Area Studies (CERAS) at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The Project involves a three-year program of training Russian social scientists, designed to strengthen the human resource base and institutional capacity of Russian social science research. The Project’s faculty associates are also working on a research project, “Russia’s Move to the Market: The Human Factor in the Workplace,” in order to learn about the effects of privatization on labour, management, and trade unions in Russian industrial enterprises, with a focus on enterprises jointly owned and managed with foreign partners. The Project is funded by the Assistance Bureau for Central and Eastern Europe of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (Canada).
The LEADER Project
The LEADER Project (students Leading Education And Development in Eastern euRope) is a student-run annual program in which a group of MBA students from the University of Western Ontario travel to Eastern Europe to teach basic skills in marketing, finance, accounting and general management to selected Soviet officials and aspiring entrepreneurs. We offer a three-week course in cooperation with partner institutions in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

East West Institute
The Institute works as a public policy catalyst, working with the leaders of Central-South Eastern Europe and Russia to address the complex, inter-related issues of building democracy and prosperity. Areas of work include international security, economic and regional development, trans-frontier cooperation, the Russian regions and development in South Eastern Europe. Projects emphasize designing multi-disciplinary frameworks to bring new ideas and points of view to bear on seemingly intractable problems in each of these project areas.

The Foundation supports highly promising young scientists early in their careers with grants to safeguard and intensify their own research activities. It funds around 15 new projects annually, with a maximum amount of DM 300,000 per project. The grants will be awarded for two- to three-year research projects carried out autonomously by the foreign researchers with specific cooperation with German scientists. The program includes scientists from Central and Eastern Europe who are currently working abroad but wish to return to scientific institutions in their native country.

The British Council is Britain’s principal agency for cultural relations and public diplomacy. Its aim is to increase awareness of contemporary Britain amongst Russians. It operates in 11 centres across the country - Moscow, St Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Sochi, Yaroslavl, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk and Volgograd. The Council’s approach is to develop partnerships between British and Russian organisations which result in mutual benefit. Britain-Russia Development Partnership (BRDP)
The British Government’s Department for International Development (DFID) aids Russia’s efforts to eliminate poverty by supporting actions that raise living standards and address the needs of the poorest members of society, and by helping to integrate Russia into the global economy. Areas of work include the reform of pensions and benefits, the development of civil society and independent media, better health provision, supporting the creation of new businesses and sustainable rural livelihoods, caring for the environment, and improving the ability of local and national governments to provide services to those most in need. DFID works through Russian and British staff in the Development Section of the British Embassy in Moscow and staff in the British Consulates in St. Petersburg and Ekaterinburg.

Coalbed Methane Outreach Program International Initiatives
CMOP cooperates with organizations in coal-producing countries to promote coal mine methane (CMM) development and use. The Russian Coalbed Methane Center promotes the development of coalbed methane (CBM) and coal mine methane (CMM) recovery in Russia. Community Connections Program
The Community Connections Program, a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, offers home stay-based, three-to-five week practical training opportunities in the U.S. for entrepreneurs, local government officials, legal professionals, non-governmental organization leaders and other professionals from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Armenia and Kazakhstan. The US NCEEER develops and sustains long-term, high quality programs of post-doctoral research in the social, political, economic, and historical development of Russia, Eurasia, and East Europe. The RLMS is a series of nationally representative surveys examining the health and economic welfare of the Russian Federation. Funders have included the World Bank, USAID, US National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. The project is run by the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Special American Business Internship Training (SABIT) Program
The US Department of Commerce’s SABIT Program assists economic restructuring in the New Independent States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union while boosting U.S. trade opportunities. It places NIS executives and scientists in U.S. firms for three- to six-month internships to gain firsthand experience in a market economy. Programs include: NIS Standards Program; Russian Far East Programs; Russian Far East Port Development; Merchandising in Russia (MIR); and Environmental Technologies.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute promotes human knowledge and its effective application, principally within the the fields of medical research and medical education.

The Donor Assistance Database (DAD)
The Donor Assistance Database (DAD) is a comprehensive information management system that organizes information on external assistance provided to a particular country by the international donor community. The DAD facilitates more effective bilateral and multilateral cooperation by making it possible for recipient governments and the international community to efficiently allocate resources in areas of critical need without wasteful duplication of donor projects.
DAD/Russia tracks information on assistance committed to the Russian Federation. Some 6,000 external assistance and economic cooperation projects include technical assistance, humanitarian aid, investment, export credit, and budget support. Over 30 donor countries and organizations provide information on their activities in Russia to the database project. DAD software is installed in more than 100 locations both inside and outside of Russia.

International AIDS Economic Network (IAEN)
The International AIDS Economic Network (IAEN) provides data, tools and analysis on the economics of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment in developing countries, for compassionate, cost-effective responses to the global epidemic. The network began in 1993 as an informal group of researchers, policymakers, program administrators and others from development agencies, multilateral institutions, universities and NGOs. The network champions the use of new information technologies – especially e-mail and the World Wide Web – to link researchers and the HIV/AIDS policy community world wide.

This site of the Delegation of the European Commission in Russia contains information about the European Union and its institutions, its 15 member states and the EU’s Tacis. The Tacis Programme, the European Union’s initiative for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, which fosters the development of harmonious and prosperous economic and political links between the European Union and these partner countries. Tacis supports partner countries’ initiatives to develop societies based on political freedoms and economic prosperity by providing grant finance for know-how to encourage the process of transition to market economies and democratic societies.

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)
UNAIDS is an advocate for worldwide action against HIV/AIDS whose global mission is to lead, strengthen and support an expanded response to the epidemic that will prevent the spread of HIV, provide care and support for those infected and affected by the disease, reduce the vulnerability of individuals and communities to HIV/AIDS, and alleviate the socioeconomic and human impact of the epidemic.
UNAIDS catalyses, strengthens and orchestrates the unique expertise, resources, and networks of influence. Working together through UNAIDS, cosponsors expand their outreach through strategic alliances with other United Nations agencies, national governments, corporations, media, religious organizations, community-based groups, regional and country networks of people living with HIV/AIDS, and other nongovernmental organizations.
